Nanook Hall of Fame Nominations

Nomination Information
The Nanook Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for the Class of 2008. After the first class is selected, any previous nominees that were not selected will automatically be considered for three years, after which they must be re-nominated if not selected. Nominations received after March 31, 2008, will be considered for the Class of 2009.

There are no restrictions on who may submit a nomination, but an individual must be nominated by someone other than himself or herself, and all nominations must be signed. Nominations must contain a rationale for consideration and other pertinent biographical information. The UAF Sports Information staff will gather and verify information on each qualified nominee and present it to the committee for review.

Selection Criteria for Induction

Qualifications and criteria shall be based upon the candidate's athletic excellence while attending or serving at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Consideration shall be given for personal conduct in life and personal contributions to the high ideals of intercollegiate athletics. Significant post-university accomplishments should be included with nominations and will be considered in the selection process. The individual must have performed with extraordinary levels of excellence and brought honor and distinction to his or her team, the athletic program and the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Individual Honoree

The qualifications to be inducted as an individual former student-athlete into the Nanook Hall of Fame are as follows:

    1.   A candidate must have participated as a student-athlete at UAF.
    2.   A candidate must have both an outstanding athletic career as well as an exemplary life of community involvement which reflects positively upon the person and UAF.
    3.   A candidate is eligible on the fifth year after completing his/her last season as a UAF student-athlete.
    4.   A candidate's graduation and exemplary academic achievement are considered desirable qualifications.
    5.   A candidate may be inducted posthumously. The five-year rule may be waived by a two-thirds vote of the Selection Committee.
    6.   Contributions and records of the person(s) considered shall be so outstanding that there will be little question of the person(s) meeting the qualifications necessary for induction.

Team Honoree

The qualifications for a team to be inducted into the Nanook Hall of Fame shall be identical to the qualifications for individual honorees along with the following:

    1.   A team must have achieved a high degree of success.
    2.   A team must have made a substantial contribution to the prestige of UAF (such as National Championship or Regional Championship).
    3.   A team is eligible for induction on the fifth year since the team last competed.

All Other Nominees (Coaches, Athletic Administrators, Athletic Staff, Boosters, etc.)

The qualifications for all other nominees to be inducted into the Nanook Hall of Fame are as follows:

    1.   A candidate must have made extraordinary contributions to the success of intercollegiate athletics at UAF.
    2.   A candidate must have made a positive impact on UAF and his/her community.
    3.   A candidate may be inducted posthumously.
