Scott Jerome heads into his sixth year as the Alaska Nanooks ski coach and brings back a host of talent, having not lost one skier from last year roster. Under Jerome's guidance, the Nanooks have seen consistent progress in their ski program, qualfying a full team of six skiers for the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row in 2007-08. The Nanooks qualified four skiers in Jerome's first year in charge, five in his second, six in 2006-08, and four this past season. Jerome had two all-conference performer's last season on the women's side, and also helped guide twins Julia Pierson and Anna Coulter to a 1-2 finish in the 15K freestyle at the CCSA Championships. The 2007-08 season brought a piece of history for Jerome and the Nanooks, as Marius Korthauer became the first Alaska male to claim an national championship, winning the 20K classic race in March's NCAA Skiing Championships. In 2005-06, Jerome led Alaska to only its second-ever Central Collegiate Ski Association title, sweeping the men's, women's, and overall team championships. Jerome has helped the Nanooks to three second-place finishes in the conference as well. Jerome has produced fifteen All-Americans in his four years with the Nanooks, five of which came during the 2007-08 season. Jerome also had six skiers named as NCAA Academic All-Americans, showing his and his team's commitment to success both on and off the trails. Prior to taking the helm for Alaska, Jerome had been head cross country and Nordic ski coach at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN for four seasons. He graduated from Bates College in 1993, after which he started his coaching career as the assistant Nordic skiing coach and director of public relations at Gould Academy, a college preparatory school in Bethel, Maine. In 1997, Jerome left Maine for Northern Michigan University where he served as a graduate assistant to Sten Fjeldheim with the Nordic skiing and cross-country running programs. Jerome earned his Master's Degree in Exercise Science in the summer of 2000 prior to beginning his first collegiate head coaching responsibilities at Gustavus. Jerome, his wife Denise, and two children Emma and Alden live in Fairbanks.
