Six Nanook skiers earn spots on All-CCSA

March 1, 2007

The Alaska Nanooks placed six skiers on the 2007 All Central Collegiate Ski Association team. The list was compiled using "Continental Cup" scoring for the conference's first six NCAA-qualifying races this season. Siblings Marius and Aurelia Korthauer led each squad, as Alaska had three first-team members and three second teamers.

For the men, the first team consists of juniors Marius Korthauer (175 points, Bonndorf, Germany) and Vahur Teppan of Alaska (126 points, Tartu, Estonia). They were joined by Martin Banerud of Northern Michigan (125), Bill Bowler of NMU (112), Jesse Lang of Michigan Tech (102) and Phil Violett of NMU (102).

Earning second-team honors for the men were Justin Singleton of NMU (84), Adam Airoldi of MTU (57), Ben Cline of NMU (57) and Kevin Heglund of MTU (53).

On the women's side, sophomore Aurelia Korthauer (123 points, Bonndorf, Germany) was the sole Alaska representative on the first team. She was joined by Maria Stuber of NMU (123), Lindsey Weier of NMU (115), Lindsay Williams of NMU (105) and Kristina Owen of MTU (97).

A trio of Nanooks earned placement on the second team: Redshirt freshman Anna Coulter (84 points, Traverse City, MI), sophomore Paula Daabach (70 points, Hede, Sweden) and sophomore Julia Coulter (67 points, Traverse City, MI). The team was rounded out by Kelly Ahern of NMU (76) and Morgan Smyth of NMU (72).

The Nanooks will be sending a full team of six skiers to the NCAA Championships next week. The national championships are March 7-10 at Attitash and Jackson XC in Mt. Washington Valley, New Hampshire. The championships will be hosted by the University of New Hampshire.
