Women's Skiing Signs Paula Daabach

FAIRBANKS, AK – The University of Alaska Fairbanks head sking coach Scott Jerome announced that Paula Daabach has signed a National Letter of Intent. A native of Hede, Sweden, Daabach will transfer to UAF in the fall as a sophomore and have three years of NCAA eligibility. A former biathlete, Daabach attended Textilhögskolan i Borås in Borås, Sweden. "I am very pleased that Paula has chosen to attend UAF and ski for the Nanooks," said Jerome. "She brings excellent technical skills, many years of solid training, and international racing experience to our program. We expect Paula to add to the quality and depth of our team immediately." Jerome will have to rely on youth next season as the Nanooks look to fill the void left by three-time All American Johanna Turunen (Joensuu, Finland) and Pavla Havlova (Jince, Czech Republic). The two seniors were first and third atop the Central Collegiate Ski Association rankings heading into the 2006 NCAA Championships. UAF swept the competition at the 2006 CCSA Regional Championships, earning their first ever women's championship and second overall team crown since 2004. At the 2006 NCAA Championships, UAF finished 10th overall with 271 points and finished fifth in the Nordic competition. Daabach is the first recruit to sign with the women's ski team for next season.
