Scott Jerome begins his fifth year as the Alaska Nanooks cross country coach. Jerome saw his program soar to new heights in 2007, as he guided the men to a fifth-place GNAC finish: the highest conference position in program history. The women also enjoyed success on the trails, running up a 5-1 record in double-duel meets throughout the season. In addition, nine Alaska runners landed spots on the conference all-academic team, indicating Jerome's emphasis on success both on the course and in the classroom. Julia Coulter also landed a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Academic team Prior to taking the helm for Alaska, Jerome had been head cross country and Nordic ski coach at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN for four seasons. During the 2003-04 season, the Gustavus women's team won the MIAC Team Championship and finished 12th at the NCAA Championships. Jerome was named MIAC Coach of the Year in each of the last three seasons. Jerome graduated from Bates College in 1993, after which he started his coaching career as the assistant Nordic skiing coach and director of public relations at Gould Academy, a college preparatory school in Bethel, Maine. In 1997, Jerome left Maine for Michigan where he served as a graduate assistant to Sten Fjeldheim with the Nordic skiing and cross-country running programs at Northern Michigan University. Jerome earned his Master's Degree in Exercise Science in the summer of 2000 prior to beginning his first collegiate head coaching responsibilities at Gustavus. Jerome, his wife Denise, and two children Emma and Alden live in Fairbanks.
