FAIRBANKS, AK - The Alaska Nanooks are pleased to announce that cross country senior Anna Coulter (Traverse City, MI) and freshman standout Theresia Schnurr (Buhlertal, Germany) have been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's co-Runners of the Week for the week of Aug. 25-Sept. 1. Coulter and Schnurr each won a race in duals with Humboldt State.
Thursday's 6,000-meter event was full of excitement. Although Coulter finished second behind Schnurr (23:34.0), Coulter was the first collegiate runner to cross the line in a time of 24:01.8 as the Nanooks beat the Lumberjacks 24-31. Schnurr was not cleared from the NCAA Clearinghouse until late Thursday night.
Saturday's 4,000-meter contest was a different story. Schnurr was able to wear the Alaska singlet as she ran for the Blue and Gold and won the race in a time of 15:39.4. Coulter finished a close second with a time of 15:45.8 in another 24-31 Alaska victory.
For Coulter, the honor marks the second straight year that she garnered GNAC Runner of the Week following the first races of the season.
The Blue and Gold resume their schedule on Sept. 6, when they race at Ester Dome at 11:00 a.m.
