Coach Ted DeLeon returns for his third year as a volunteer assistant coach with the Nanooks after serving an illustrious 30-year career coaching high school basketball in the Fairbanks area, winning over 400 total games with two schools. When all was said and done, DeLeon retired with an impressive high school coaching record of 406-271. DeLeon spent 17 seasons as head coach of West Valley High School, leading the Wolfpack to the 4A state championship in 1990. He ran up a 206-173 mark with West Valley, including three Region VI championships. Prior to joining West Valley, DeLeon coached Ben Eielson High School for 13 seasons as well, winning two Western Alaska Class B championships with the Ravens. In addition to serving as head coach for both programs, DeLeon also worked as the activities director and head of physical education for both schools. He also coached football for 10 years, track for 15 years and four seasons of wrestling. DeLeon has received numerous awards for his service to high school sports as well as the Fairbanks community. He was named Fairbanks Sportsman of the Year in 1974, and has been listed among the Who's Who for both High School Basketball Coaches as well as High School Physical Educators. In 1990, Deleon was named Alaska Basketball Coach of the Year. DeLeon lives in Fairbanks, and has two adult children, Christopher and Stacey.
