Though this may be his first season serving as an assistant with the Nanooks, Coach Sconiers is no stranger to the men's basketball program. Sconiers spent three seasons (2002-2004) playing guard for Alaska, taking the floor alongside Brad Oleson. Sconiers is also a part of Nanooks history, having been a member of the 2002 team that won both the GNAC title as well as the Top of the World Classic: the only Division II school to have ever won a Division I tournament. He was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year in his senior season with the Nanooks. Sconiers graduated from UAF in 2005, receiving a bachelor's degree in sociology. Before re-joining the Nanooks, he served as an assistant basketball coach at West Valley High School from 2005-2007.
