Alaska Men's and Women's Basketball To Host Blue/Gold Scrimmage

Oct. 12, 2007

FAIRBANKS, AK- Alaska's women's basketball coach Lynne Andrew, in conjunction with men's basketball coach Clemon Johnson, announced the Nanooks' two basketball teams would be hosting their Blue/Gold intra-squad scrimmages on Saturday, October 13. The event, which will offer Nanooks fans their first glimpse of the 2007-08 teams, will be held in the Patty Center gym following the conclusion of Alaska's volleyball match against Western Washington.

"We are excited to have the community come out on Saturday to see the teams, to share our excitement about the year ahead, and really kick off the basketball season," said Andrew. "Hopefully this event will get everyone fired up about our teams this year and get them ready for basketball to get started."

In addition to a 20-minute men's Blue/Gold contest and a 20-minute women's scrimmage, four Alaska players from each team will compete in a co-ed three-point shooting competition.

Fans can also expect a number of interactive contests and opportunities to win prizes during the 90-minute event, including an audience-only men's shooting contest and a basketball-oriented version of musical chairs. Kids in the audience will also be teamed up with Nanook athletes to compete in a dribbling relay race, with special prizes going to the top two teams.

Admission to the event will be free, but participants are encouraged to come out and support the Nanooks' volleyball team beforehand. Tickets for the volleyball match are $6 for adults, $3 for students.
