Scott Lemley

Player Profile

Position:
Head Coach

Experience:
5th Year

Education:
B.A. University of Alaska Fairbanks

A former swimmer and coach for the Alaska Nanooks, Scott Lemley enters his fifth full season at the helm of the Alaska swimming program since 1987.

Lemley led the Nanooks to thier most successful season since its revival in 2005. The Blue and Gold finished the highest it ever has at the Pacific Coast Swimming Conference (PCSC) championships, finishing sixth. It also marked the first time ever a Nanook has captured an individual title at the championships as Mariya Pavlovskaya won the 400IM. Lemley brought six girls to nationals, making it the first time the Nanooks had sent more than one swimmer to that meet. They left with two swimmers earning All-American accolades (five in all), and looks to continue upon his tremendous success in the 2009-10 season.

Lemley has both competed and coached for Alaska. He was a student-athlete for the Nanook swimming team from 1970 through 1973, and served as head coach for the Nanook men's and women's swimming teams from 1982 through 1987. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Lemley made his return to coaching for the Nanook swim program on Jan. 4, 2005. Prior to coming back on board Lemley served as the head coach at Lathrop High School for five seasons.

Currently the Senior Coach for the Stingrays Swim Team, Lemley has been the Head Coach of the Alaska Pacific Swim Club and the Alaska Sports Academy swim teams in Anchorage and the Fairbanks Arctic Swim Team and Midnight Sun Swim Teams in Fairbanks. He coached high school swimming in Fairbanks for 18 years before retiring as a prep coach to take the Nanook's Head Coaching job. In addition to his most recent coaching position at Lathrop, Lemley served as the Head Coach of the West Valley High School Swim Team for 13 years between 1979 and 1991.
