FAIRBANKS, AK - The Alaska Nanooks continued to make history Sunday, when they defeated Division III Pacific Lutheran University, 126-79, for the program's first weekend sweep.

The opening relay ended up the same as Saturday's final event with the Nanooks finishing in front of PLU's "A" relay 4:17.16 to 4:23.92. The "A" team of Mariya Pavlovskaya, Courtney Miller, Kelly Becker and Sam Zinsli were on the winning side. The Nanook's "B" team of Jacqueline van Driessche, Heidi Tilicki, Abbey Jackson and Karin Wagner finished in third place with a time of 4:30.81.

PLU's shining moment came in the mile where they finished 1-2-3. Nanook milers Joann Kump and Amanda Davis finished in fourth (20:29.32) and fifth (20:37.03).

Alaska freshman Kinsey Laine won the 200 free with a time of 2:04.28 while teammate and sophomore Kathryn Niemi finished third (2:11.43) and Miller landed in fifth place (2:17.29).

A high point for Alaska was in the the 50 yd freestyle: the ultimate sprint event and one that the Nanooks have not dominated all season. Sunday, however, the Blue and Gold took the top to spots with van Driessche winning the event (26.03) and Wagner finishing on her heels in 26.46. Freshman Tori Reiss finished fifth with a 29.33

Russian sensation Pavlovskaya won the 200 individual medley with a 2:16.43 while junior Amanda Hartman grabbed second place with a season-best 2:28.92 and Kump finished fourth in 2:34.41.

Alaska's lone All-American (Becker) was the only swimmer to break a pool record with her 200 fly win, when she dipped below 2:10 with a 2:09.82. The Nanooks' Laine finished in second place (2:21.63).

In the 100 yd freestyle, Zinsli beat PLU's best swimmer, Jessie Klauder, with a time of 56.33. Alaska's Wagner finished in third place with a 58.99.

In the 200 yd backstroke PLU's Casey Jackson won the race, although Alaska secured the next three spots with good swims by Jackson (2:22.92), Niemi (2:24.52) and Hartman (2:27.86).

In her first ever 500 yd freestyle swim, Russian backstroker Pavlovskaya won the event with a fast 5:25.31 while Laine finished second in a 5:32.09.

In the 200 breaststroke PLU's top swimmer, Jessie Klauder, narrowly outlasted Miller 2:40.44 to 2:41.83. Meanwhile, Tilicki finished in third with a personal-best time of 2:44.23.

For the second consecutive day, the Nanooks finished the meet as they started it. The Nanooks relay team of Zinsli, van Driessche, Tilicki and Becker won the 200 free in a time of 1:45.38.

With a strong end to the first half of their season under their swim caps, the Nanooks will get some well earned rest as they head into the holiday and semester break. They will resume their training in Maui, Hawaii to start the New Year, where they will also compete against Division I Loyola Marymount on January 4.
