Nanooks Fall To 0-2 At SSU Invite

Aug. 25, 2006

Box Score

ROHNERT PARK, CA - The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team was defeated for the second time in as many matches Friday evening as the Chico State University posted a three-game sweep of the Nanooks, taking the contest by scores of 30-21, 30-27, and 30-25, at the Sonoma State University Invitational.

"Chico is a good team but we had our chances," said head coach Phil Shoemaker. "There were a lot of good plays we made, but we weren't able to put them all together and finish the job. We started slow and were being too indecisive but the bottom line was our passing kept our offense out of sync."

There were some bright spots in the loss with junior co-captain Jenna Jones (Fairbanks, AK) leading the team with nine kills and 18 digs and freshman middle Megan Thigpen (Spokane, WA) recording a .333 attack percentage and 13 digs.

Also hitting well were senior middle hitter Katrina Jensen (Federal Way, WA) who hit .235 off seven kills and added three block assists and freshman rightside hitter Jessica Hill (Colorado Springs, CO) who chipped in eight kills and seven block assists for the Nanooks.

The Nanooks, 0-2 in the SSU Invitational and their young season, will resume tournament action tomorrow morning. They are slated to face California State University Stanislaus at 9:00 a.m. AST and CSU Monterey Bay for their final match of the weekend at 2:00 p.m. AST.
