Alaska spikers dominate in-state rival UAA

Fairbanks, AK - Katrina Jensen (Federal Way, WA) and the Alaska Nanooks dominated in-state rivals University of Alaska Anchorage Saturday night in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action 30-24, 30-13, 28-30, 30-24 on Senior Night. Jensen took home Toyota Player of the Game honors with 10 kills and a match-high five blocks in her final match at the Patty Center in front of a season-high 584 fans. The 5-11 middle hitter hit match-high .317 to pace a Nanook offense that out-hit (.233 to .086) and out-served (10 aces to 4) the Seawolves. Alaska dominated the action at the net with 12 blocks to UAA's eight. Freshman Megan Thigpen (Spokane, WA) had match-highs of 15 kills and 17 kills and junior Jenna Jones (Fairbanks, AK) added 11 kills and 16 digs, while freshman Alexa Sherman (Calabasas, CA) had a match-high 46 assists. Kim Stolk paced UAA with 12 kills and Tahane Kahalehau contributed eight kills, 38 assists, four aces and 11 digs. With the win, Alaska finished the season 7-16 overall and 6-10 in the GNAC, while UAA dropped to 5-20 and 2-14.
